Claro de Lua is located near to the historic center of the seaside town of San Felice Circeo, on a magic promontory mentioned in Homer's legend The Odissey where Ulisses meets the Sorceress Circe. 

 

San Felice Circeo is probably the most beautiful and undiscovered of all Lazio region.

 

Lazio looks out for its entire length on the Mediterranean Sea. Three of its provinces border the sea: Viterbo , Rome and Latina. The long coast of Lazio hosts some of the best Italian beaches. This year, the Lazio coast has been awarded with seven Blue flags, the international certification for the environmental quality of coastal resorts. Six Blue flags were given to the “Riviera of Ulysses”, in the province of Latina: Sabaudia, San Felice Circeo, Sperlonga, Ventotene-­Cala Nave and the two newcomers to this label: Gaeta and Latina (Marina di Latina). 

 

The coast which has been flat and sandy for miles, suddenly starts to move, in a succession of promontories with little hidden bays and beaches, charming grottoes alternating rich mediterranean vegetation and harsher, naked areas, all of is dipping down into a splendid sea with rich colours offering wonderful panoramas. The National Park of Circeo is here, in an area rich in historical remains and artistic treasures.

 

San Felice Circeo are not only distinguished and fully equipped locations, making them a place for all types of tourism, but they are also managed by quality private operators and local institutions. Indeed, long stretches of the coast are a part of protected areas at the National and Regional level. In 2014, a major international recognition was awarded to this land as the Circeo National Park got included in the list of the UNESCO protected natural areas.

 

The Riviera of Ulysses is a strip of coastline more than 50 km long, stretching from the promontory of Circeo to the city of Gaeta.

This land is fit to practice all types of tourism. Travellers in search for relaxation and nature will love the beautiful dunes of Circeo and Sabaudia, far from populated city centers.

Diving enthusiasts can choose between numerous options. The most experienced can enjoy the depths of the Circeo promontory.

 

The ports of San Felice Circeo and Terracina, in addition of being fully equipped and spectacular private boats docks, are also great starting points for your trips towards the magnificent islands of Ponza.

 

 

Claro de Lua is situated a San Felice Circeo, province of Latina, just a 100 km to Rome.

 

The villa is located in a strategic position to visit:

 

  • Whithin 30min to drive, it's possible to visit Fossanova Abbey, Sermoneta, Gaeta, and much more.

 

  • The ruins of the Castle Caetani in the lost city of Ninfa, with its towers dominating the surrounding natural gardens.

 

  • The Temple of Jupiter Anxur above Terracina dstes back to the fourth century a.c.. The complex is large and spectacularly-situated, dominating the shoreline and sea.

 

  • Cave near the village of Sperlonga, a sculptural complex dating back to the first century was found, depicting Ulysses and his companions intent to blind the cyclops Polyphemus. This group of statues is currently preserved in the archaeological museum of Sperlonga.

 

  • The six Pontine Islands: Ponza, the largest one, Palmarola, Zannone and Gavi, and the more distant Ventotene and Santo Stefano. These islands offer stunning and wild nature sights, with colourful limestone cliffs overlooking the sea. Here, the Mediterranean sea is deep blue and clear all year long and attracts tourists from all over the world. 

    Sailings to and from the Pontine Islands can be made from San Felice Circeo. The Port is located whitin 8 min by car from the Claro de Lua. The journey time is 1h15′ by hydrofoil. Or you can rent a private boat.
